The Roman Wall is designated a World Heritage Site. The most impressive section of the wall runs from Housesteads Fort to the Milecastle at Cawfields – perched on the edge of the whinstone ledge that looks north to Kielder Forest and the Northumberland Hills – an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Vindolanda was the biggest settlement close to the wall.The writings and artefacts displayed from Vindolanda in the British Museum proved outstanding attractions. Excavations with displays of finds are on-going at Vindolanda.
